Terms of Service & MIT License Notice
1. MIT License Grant
RedactLocal software is free and open-source under the MIT License. Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, subject to the following conditions:
- Zero Fees & Zero Accounts: You do not need to register, purchase a license key, or pay any subscription to use the full feature set.
- 100% Air-Gapped Operation: RedactLocal runs entirely on-device with strictly enforced zero-network policies.
- Commercial & Enterprise Use: Law firms, accounting practices, healthcare clinics, and individuals may freely use RedactLocal for all confidential production workflows without cost.
2. Privacy & Excision Architecture
RedactLocal is engineered with strict cryptographic and architectural invariants:
- It never transmits document bytecodes, filenames, or metadata to any remote server (
connect-src 'none'). - When redaction is executed, targeted character glyph operators (
Tj/TJ) are excised from content streams, AcroForm/Vvalues nullified, and underlying raster pixels permanently overwritten rather than masked with opaque black vectors.
3. Practitioner Responsibility
RedactLocal provides deterministic pattern detection (FRCP 5.2, HIPAA Safe Harbor § 164.514, IRS § 7216) and surgical bytecode excision audited by 7 independent verification oracles. However, final legal responsibility for court, regulatory, or client submissions rests with the practitioner. Users should verify redactions before filing.
4. Voluntary Sponsorship
RedactLocal is funded purely through voluntary developer support via Buy Me a Coffee. Voluntary tips are non-refundable and do not alter the free terms of the MIT License.
